Our water industry maintenance client is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join their Waterlooville based team; the role will involve site visits across the South coast.


Previous water industry experience is desirable

The Job

As a member of the site team, you will be responsible for the on-site testing and commissioning of our projects as well as carrying out any other electrical installation roles as required. Whilst the role has an electrical bias, you will be expected to have an understanding of both mechanical and process systems. The day-to-day activities of this role will involve travelling to a client's site to carry out testing and commissioning activities for that particular project. The requirements of each project will be explained by the Commissioning Manager and you will then be responsible for carrying out the work on site including completing the associated paperwork where required.

The Commissioning Engineer will be part of the larger site team and will be delegated responsibilities by the Commissioning Manager.


  • The ability to specify job requirements and the parts / equipment / materials needed
  • Work on client sites as well as in Company workshop as required
  • Undertake and supervise various electrical installation, testing and refurbishment projects
  • Inspection and testing of electrical systems to troubleshoot problems
  • Verify installations
  • Diagnosing and rectifying faults in the field
  • Provide assistance to installation and commissioning teams
  • Assist in the production of P&ID's, Control Philosophies, Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Manuals
  • Completion of required paperwork to demonstrate installation, testing and commissioning work has been carried out successfully accurately and timely
  • Utilise design drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's installation manuals to complete assigned projects
  • Liaison with Project Manager, Commissioning Manager and procurement teams to ensure the correct implementation of project and Client specific requirements as well as correct purchase of plant and equipment
  • Interpreting and understanding Client requirements from drawings, specifications and standards
  • Assist in the preparation of process related CAD drawings
  • Assist in process flow diagrams, P&IDs, technical reports, control philosophies, commissioning plans and process compliance plans.
  • Site based commissioning support
  • Survey electrical systems and plans
  • Compliance with BS7671 requirements and client specific standards

  • Ensure compliance with the Company's policies, procedures and work instructions including commitment to working with the Company to achieve its OH&S, environmental and quality objectives and using correct Personal Protective Equipment at all times

  • Carry out any other reasonable request from the management team


The main skills required for this role are experience and dedication with a positive attitude. Our client is seeking a candidate with at least 5 years experience of electrical installation, testing and commissioning, ideally in the UK water sector. Good communication, team working and problem solving skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to understand and implement electrical drawings and instructions.

  • 5+ years' related experience post qualification in electrical installation, testing and commissioning, preferably in the UK water sector
  • Engineering degree OR Apprenticeship is panel wiring / panel building OR Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services
  • 18th Edition preferable
  • 2391Test and Inspection preferable
  • Control and automation experience advantageous
  • Able to work well in a team and supervise others, giving clear instruction and direction
  • Excellent health and safety knowledge and application
  • Well organised with ability to multi task
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive "can do" attitude with flexible approach to work
  • Excellent personal presentation
  • Driving licence (full, clean)
  • CSCS card and confined space training preferable


  • Salary £35,000 - £38,000 subject to experience and training
