The Job

Position description

Provide engineering expertise and undertake a defined list of engineer activities

Core Activity

  • Knowledge and experience in use of ship design processes and systems to LCM guidelines
  • Ability to assure the Engineering Manager that quality, cost and technical targets are being are all being achieved in line with the agreed programme of work

Key Accountabilities

  • Know how to work with Supervisor to deliver all aspects of engineering deliverables including Stage 1 & Stage 2/3 (TBD) Design, and Change, PQ closure, NC closure, etc.
  • Be aware of need to deliver engineering effort to budget and schedule
  • Provide discipline interface to other disciplines / areas of the business
  • Knowledge of the nature of the work in all phases of the engineering life cycle especially with regard to the achievement of project phase milestones. Understands the relationship between activities in different phases of the engineering lifecycle
  • Knowledge of how to perform problem definition for the whole system/problem, identifying implicit and explicit boundaries, interfaces, constraints and requirements in own business area. Able to decompose the system/problem into manageable chunks and to assess the implications of proposed changes on technical, operational and commercial aspects of the complete system or project
  • Understanding of project management concepts, principles and techniques and effectively translate them to large and/ or complex projects. Skilled in ensuring that you and your function contribute effectively throughout the project lifecycle
  • Knowledge of how to proactively identify, manage and mitigate product safety issues across the product/service area
  • Provide engineering support to the delivery of projects/programmes that are likely to have a value in excess of millions of pounds and have a significant headcount
  • Support development of engineering design and production output data for the project, including responsibility for the Stage 1 Engineering Team within cost, schedule and quality targets
  • Support IPMS engineering management activities, authorising budget and resource allocations

Qualifications

  • Electrical Degree
  • 6 months experience in Electrical Engineering Design
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary, matrix management environment
  • Desirable
  • Electrical Engineering Safety Qualifications/Experience
  • Experience of working on Naval projects
  • Working knowledge of BAE Systems LCM processes & tools
  • Working knowledge of Project Management reporting
