Product Development Engineer
Job Description
As a Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for technical aspects of your respective programmes covering new product development, evolution of legacy products and supporting the manufacture of in-service products. Projects will cover all phases of a product's lifecycle: concepts, development, testing, qualification, production and in service support. You will work with a team of engineers to deliver a variety of project goals, depending on project size and complexity.
This diverse role will provide you with the opportunity to engage with many different engineering disciplines, as well as gaining a wealth of experience in this area. There will also be opportunities to engage with many other functions within BAE Systems on a wide range of projects.
Responsibilities
- Assisting product development and systems engineering activities for new and legacy products
- Coordination of product development and related engineering activities
- Configuration and maintenance of Engineering bills of materials for products
- Product development and evaluation e.g. Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Manufacture, test and evaluation of munitions products
- Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner - from the trials planning stage to completion of the trial and presentation of the data
- Development and use safe systems of work
- Development of quality systems
- Management of stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure that development activities are completed to time and schedule
- Contribution to the Life Cycle Management Process where required
- Contribution to the Risk Management process
- Liaise with customers - both internal and external as demanded
- Working as part of an integrated project team, including regular engagement with project management, procurement (supply chain) and operations
- Competencies, Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum HNC in a Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) discipline
- 5 Years product development experience in the Engineering industry
- Available for immediate start
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a proven capability in development projects, in particular system integration
- Proven ability to take ownership, prioritise and deliver product Engineering tasks within development projects to ensure completion within agreed timescales and to required standard
- Ability to produce high quality technical reports
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and strong IT skills
- A good understanding of project/risk management and the ability to use associated tools and techniques
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and models
Desirable
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) discipline
- Knowledge of munition design and manufacture is an advantage, although not essential as training will be given
- Familiarity with the Life Cycle Management (LCM) process
- A working knowledge of Systems Engineering and Engineering design
- Working knowledge of Risk Management
- Awareness of relevant manufacturing technologies and processes
- Current valid UK Security Clearance to SC level or higher
