Project Manager Peterborough - Highway

The Job

One of the Delivery Integration Partners (DIP) on the Regional Delivery Partnership Framework (RDP) with Highways England and have been awarded multiple schemes along the A47 running from Peterborough to Norfolk with a combined construction value in excess of £250m. The framework will see us firmly invest in the region through to 2025 and beyond, so we are looking for a talented Project Manager to assist us in the Detailed Design/ECI phase on several of these schemes and then moving from detailed design into construction from 2022. The projects range from construction of new dual carriageways, roundabouts, junction improvements and interchanges with a series of structures all delivered in partnership with Highways England and SWECO.

  • Create a 'Knowingly Safe' working environment;
  • Ensure that the principles of CDM are applied and relevant legislation is complied with
  • Ensure Highways England's Imperatives 'Safety, Customer and Delivery' are delivered and on time.
  • Embed a F.R.E.D.I.E Culture
  • Engage with the designer and other stakeholders to ensure a safe, buildable and timely design is achieved within the detailed design phase to allow efficient delivery of the scheme.
  • Working with the estimating and commercial teams, ensure robust budget and Total of Prices submissions are prepared, submitted for GT governance and agreed with client teams to secure Notice to Proceed to construction
  • Work with the commercial team to manage change
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate collaborative workshops as and when required
  • Interview, select and onboard staff in line with the resource profile for the Scheme;
  • With the support of the Commercial Team ensure the selection and timely appointment of the best Supply Chain partners
  • Ensure all pre-commencement and regulatory requirements are discharged prior to work commencing.
  • Plan and prepare for delivery of the Scheme throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure a Temporary Works Coordinator is appointed and ensure all Temporary Works requirements are understood, designed and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Ensure a Utility Service Coordinator is appointed and that all company permit to work systems are followed.
  • Plan, prepare and oversee the establishment of the site offices and compound
  • Champion the use of innovative technologies and techniques
  • Take ownership of risk & opportunities in conjunction with the Risk Manager
  • Manage costs and value and maximise cash flow and profitability in conjunction with the Commercial Team
  • Ensure any incidents/accidents are thoroughly investigated, closed out and learnings implemented
  • Take ownership for the delivery and quality of work to the required standards
  • Manage the Construction Teams and Supply Chain partners to ensure delivery of the Scheme in line with the agreed Budget, Programme and Scope.
  • Ensure adequate resource to fulfil the programme
  • Engage with the Performance Team to ensure all CPF/BSC scoring is completed and evidenced.
  • Ensure all internal and external reporting is completed as required.
  • Manage, monitor and review direct reports and team performances, providing encouragement and discipline as and when required.
  • Engage in stakeholder communication and management
  • Lead in delivering our commitments, including community engagement, Employment & Skills, Innovations and through working groups.
  • Engage with sector leadership to promote the project and company including through external awards, professional lectures, trade press articles and site visits.
  • Ensure the project teams are provided with adequate resource and training to enable compliance with company procedures and current legislation
  • Ensure close relationships are developed and maintained with key suppliers
  • Ensure all work is carried out utilising the procedures, guidance and forms contained within the corporate Business Management System (BMS) and through use of Company systems including Viewpoint for Projects, Fieldview, CEMAR, Oracle and Office 365.
