Introduction

Our water sector client is seeking a Governance & Assurance Lead to support first line assurance and governance to their operational field teams and risk and compliance directorate on the wastewater side of their business.

The Job

The ideal candidate will support the development, maintenance, and improvement of control systems to provide governance & assurance on compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal policies, to provide first line assurance to their business in the quality of regulatory reporting for Spill Reporting & Pollutions. Any experience in presenting, policy management, collating data within water/environment would be beneficial.


The candidate will manage ethical business practice, regulatory reporting, and assurance to enable our client to meet its regulatory requirements and improve the culture of compliance.
They will provide Assurance and governance for our clients' wastewater statement of Compliance, OCF regulatory reporting, Section 19 assurance, and wastewater business performance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first line assurance for the data within the Annual Spill Report & Bathing Water regulatory Reports
  • Facilitating the delivery of first line assurance for Spill Reporting, Pollutions, Section 19 commitments and liaising with internal teams to drive appropriate action in response to assurance outcomes.
  • Respond to EIR, S108 and other regulatory data requests relating to Spill and Pollution to ensure consistency & accuracy, working with internal legal teams, colleagues as required
  • Identify inconsistencies against process, identifying areas and support for training in Spill Reporting and Pollution Teams, support the delivery of team Tool Box Talks via Spill Reporting Management, tracker for sign off
  • Proactive identification of EDM failure including identifying AF issues, liaison with business to track problem resolution
  • Undertake varied, detailed, and involved analysis of data from 100+ wastewater sites in order to diagnose potential faults, direct appropriate action and recommend modifications to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the business.
  • Uses knowledge, judgement and expertise to identify solutions
  • This is a key process in the drive to reduce Wastewater Compliance Failure incidents.
  • Be part of a team of 6 covering a range of skills including: First line Assurance, Ethics and compliance and Regulatory reporting
  • The role requires cross functional working to support business objectives through first line governance and assurance.
  • Responsible for supporting improvements to implement first line internal assurance for regulatory reporting, information management and culture improvements.

  • Excellent analytical and numeric skills
  • Expert Excel, PI, PRISM, BMA
  • Logical, structured & adaptable using problem solving skills to meet changing business demand
  • Ability to review, rationalise, optimise, and deliver performance reporting and analysis, proposing change initiatives to support delivery of improvements to business performance.
  • Tenacity & ability to work at pace to deadlines with good attention to detail
  • Communicate at a professional level with people at all levels of the company and externally (verbal and written).
  • Understanding of wastewater operational environment and associated systems & expert skills in PRISM, PI, BMA, Ellipse, CSMS
  • IT skills particularly in MS office applications including Excel

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Regulatory Environment desirable
  • Qualified to HND level and / or significant technical experience
  • Significant experience relating to reporting and analytics preferably in a utilities industry
  • Risk management & assurance experience desirable
