The Job

The role holder:

The purpose of the Senior Operational Excellence (OpEx) Manager role is to develop, implement and govern capable OpEx resource that can meet business improvement requirements aimed at delivering tangible Safety, Quality, and Cost business benefit supported through the deployment of BAE systems eight core behaviours.

As a Senior OpEx Manager, you will be responsible for the management and leadership of projects, process or teams that provide both bottom line business benefit and build a cohesive improvement capacity and capability managed through both systems and people measured through to EAC / IBP.

Core Duties

 To undertake all Governance & Delegation of Authority related responsibilities as nominated and approved to do so by the Head of Operational Excellence.

 Provides overall daily governance and direction that identifies risks to plan delivery, routinely reporting status, highlights and gaps

 Provides required skills, talent capability and capacity through the deployment tools & methods that aid the delivery of OpEx targets

 Works closely with internal & external stakeholders to ensure resource alignment and collaboration

 Provides clear instructions into BAU capability to ensure Standard Work principles

 Works closely with all stakeholders, assigning appropriate SQEP resource to agreed prioritised business critical areas

 Routinely assesses the pipeline of initiatives against credible OpEx resource to ensure that this resource is assigned to appropriate development opportunities for best fit business benefit

 Ensure that all Operational Excellence activities undertaken both within central or embedded areas of responsibility comply with the Operational Excellence Framework

 For deployed project roles they will ensure that their initiatives and OpEx facilitators have achievable output solutions, which satisfy a sustainable solution through to IBP

 Identify resource requirements through the lifecycle of the project and manage that resource within agreed limits.

 Assure the maturity of the developed solutions is appropriate for the specific requirement and that all sustainable business risks and opportunities are captured

 Review the processes and procedures within the span of control to reduce waste, improve efficiency and establish a dynamic and flexible world class capability.

 Chair appropriate OpEx / business reviews at all leadership levels providing significant contribution to associated targets and objectives

 Ensure Operational Excellence not only embeds within business critical areas but ensure clean line of sight to tangible "cash out" benefit realisation

 Oversee organisation of workshops and facilitates Business improvement / CI workshops within Programmes

 Organise workshops facilitate Business improvement / CI workshops with other programmes to share learning

 Trains, Supports and mentors LSS BBs

 Works closely with academy/central team to ensure courses meet the Just in Time needs of their area.

Knowledge:

 For Financial and PO related roles, they will be considered to be the 'expert' in their technology stream, and should be fully aware of their interfaces with other parts of the business.

 Requires detailed and comprehensive understanding of a number of Operational Excellence sub-disciplines. For Project / Business Delivery Organisation roles, is not necessarily the 'expert', but is able to discuss and understand context and implications of Operational Excellence tools and techniques across a number of areas.

 Requires depth of understanding of how Operational Excellence people are deployed, organised and governed, and how they are integrated with other disciplines. Requires good understanding of customer and customer requirements plus an awareness of industry approaches and standards.

Training, Coaching & Mentoring LSS methodology (or equivalent)

Management Experience

Value Management /Cost Management

Transformation Programme Experience

Project management

LSS Black Belt Qualified / BB training delivery (or equivalent)

Working towards LSS MBB (or equivalent)

Lean Methodology

Business Process Improvement Experience

Ideally Agile Experience

Qualifications:

 Ideally degree qualified to Masters level

 Preferably Manufacturing / Mechanical Engineering Degree

 Six Sigma Qualified (Black Belt) (or equivalent experience/training)

 ITAR, PSA, CA and NNPPI security clearance as required for specific duties.
