Commercial Estimator - Southampton/Isle of Wight

  • Hybrid working with travel to Southampton and Isle of Wight.

This role is based within the maritime industry, and as such, experience working within an estimating function in this sector is crucial. As the Commercial Estimator you will report to the Commercial Director and be responsible for using your marine experience and knowledge for end-to-end bid estimate management. Activities will include;

  • Liaison with the Procurement Department to ensure accurate quotations are obtained for materials and equipment.
  • Liaison with the Production Department to ensure accurate estimates of labour activity for a bid are produced.
  • Liaison with the Finance Department to ensure accurate overheads and on costs are included, and presentation of estimates and price breakdowns to company directors for approval, prior to the submission to customers.

DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Support the sales and marketing function by providing accurate and detailed estimates for the supply of various types of ships and associated materials in line with the company's drawings and specifications agreed with the client.
  • Produce competitive estimates at agreed margins set by the Board of Directors to sustain and grow the business and support the achievement of sales targets.
  • Manage the estimating approach to each project in agreement with the sales team to ensure that opportunities are prioritised, workload is managed and response timescales are achieved.
  • Interact with technical, finance, procurement and production departments to ensure projects progress through the sales system from the initial identification of an opportunity through to Contract agreement.
  • Identify areas of risk during the tender process and present them to the Commercial Director for inclusion in the bid review process.
  • Update the tender register with new enquiries and keep records up to date.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • HNC / HND / Degree in an Engineering discipline or Naval Architecture
  • MS Office - Essential
  • Experience in an estimator role
  • Experience in preparing and submitting ship tenders
  • Previous experience working in the maritime industry
