Job description
Continuous Improvement Engineer
Department: Operations
Responsible to: Production Manager
Status: Permanent
Normal Hours of Work: 37 hours per week.
Location: Poole, UK.
Job Summary
The role is responsible for supporting and executing the Lean strategy improvement program, driving continuous improvement, and supporting various departments. The role will provide support to the assembly and manufacturing processes through applying Lean and continuous improvement methodology, targeting quality improvements, product cost reduction and applying Health & Safety best practice focusing on waste reduction, process stabilization and value creation for customers and the Company.
Responsibilities
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Ensure all reports are up to date and submitted on time e.g., Story Boards, One pager's, etc.
- Provide strong Continuous Improvement leadership, direction, and support.
- Use Lean tools to identify non-value-added activities at a departmental level using Value Stream Map and process map results.
- Help with planning the layout of operations/office areas using Lean tools e.g., spaghetti diagrams.
- Maintain implementation plan for the Lean strategy.
- Lead Continuous Improvement activities (SOPs, Kaizen events, SMED).
- Track and report Continuous Improvement and Lean activity results. Identify performance trends.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure Continuous Improvement is implemented and sustained.
- Deliver in house training in the basics of Lean.
- Update KPIs to ensure targets are met, provide concise and accurate information for management reports.
- Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required
The Person
Essential Criteria
- 4 GCSEs including grade C or above in English and Maths or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Ability to demonstrate a positive can-do attitude and work calmly under pressure.
- Strong team player with the ability to influence and coach others.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Committed to work to deadlines and determined to see a job through to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Good project management and facilitation skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- PC Literate in PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Demonstrable experience in the application of Continuous Improvement and Lean principles.
- Desire to succeed and progress.
- Demonstrable experience in implementing and effectively facilitating Continuous Improvement tools and techniques.
Desirable Criteria
- Operations or Engineering background with a thorough understanding and experience of quality, safety, maintenance, machining, assembly, and test.
