Civil Engineer

$110-130k (depending on years of experience)
Overhead Contact System Engineer-Rail
Our office in Toronto is seeking an Overhead Contact System Engineer-Rail (rail) to join our Toronto team.
This is a position to produce designs for rail (High Speed, Metro, LRT, streetcars) in the Toronto office.
Responsibilities include:
- Design electrification systems in terms of power supply systems, and high-voltage and medium-voltage networks
- Design traction power distribution networks including Contact Rail System (CRS), and overhead contact system (OCS)
- Design CRS and OCS layout, OCS wire tensions, foundations, poles/columns/structures for light rail, commuter rail, and streetcar with pantograph as well as streetcar and electrified buses with trolley poles
- Coordinate with other engineers for rail systems integration and design.
- Prepare design reports
- Develop documents including specifications, drawings, and cost estimates
- Review project submittals and requests for information from contractors
- Provide installation, testing, and commissioning support to clients
- Support the administration and construction activities and supervision of the installation, testing & and commissioning of power supply, CRS, OCS, and distribution systems for LRT/Metro/rail infrastructure projects
- Support execution of the design, supply, installation & and maintenance of power supply, high-voltage, medium-voltage, CRS, OCS, and distribution systems for an LRT or Metro system.
- Assist, and participate in site technical meetings, internal discussion sessions, telephone conferences, and technical team meetings
- Support official meetings with governmental authorities
- Support organizational and technical activities and train client's employees
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- 5-8 years of experience with DC OCS or CRS design, including the design of 600 to 1500 V DC rail as well as 12 to 25 kV AC.
- Thorough understanding of the applicable International and Canadian Electrical Standards and Safety codes
- P. Eng. license or engineer-in-training certificate is mandatory
- Experience within the North American transit/transportation industry is highly desirable
- Experience in the local Canadian rail & transit market is an asset
- Must have excellent written and verbal skills
