Job description
This is an opportunity for a Contracts Engineer to work on a variety of maintenance and turnaround services contracts with our client who own and operate the Fawley refinery and petrochemical manufacturing complex.
The primary role and responsibility of the Contracts Engineer will be to develop and implement contracting strategies to maximise commercial value and ensure contracts are effectively implemented and administered to maximum benefit.
The Contract Engineer must have a strong commercial background and must have working knowledge of maintenance / turnaround / shutdown technical disciplines / trades, e.g. mechanical, electrical, civil / structural. You must also have great communication and interpersonal skills to be able to influence, persuade and negotiate with Contractor commercial and management teams. In addition candidates should have experience of working in an operational environment, e.g. oil & gas, petrochemical, oil refinery, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical, power generation, nuclear or water treatment sectors, i.e. a working understanding of day-to-day operations involving services contracts.
The role and responsibilities will broadly be split between two areas:
One
- Ensuring procurement integrated plans for contract tenders / renewals (PIPs) are aligned with contracting strategies, business objectives and site priorities.
- Developing contracting strategies that deliver commercial advantage.
- Identifying & driving opportunities for change and improvement.
- Updating technical work scopes
- Creating & reviewing tender plans.
- Reviewing bids
- Leading management of change for implementation of new site contracts including summary of key contract items, method of measurement, in-out lists, roles and responsibilities, and ensuring process, payment and control points are defined.
Two
- Implementation and administration of the contracts whilst providing ongoing commercial support throughout their lifecycle.
- Clarifying the applicability and interpretation of contract terms.
- Completing performance reviews regarding operational performance and delivery
- Managing Contractors expectations and areas for improvements
- Reviewing results of field checks leading follow up actions to resolve issues, e.g. controls, leakage, measurement.
- Identifying the need for contract amendments.
- Driving continual improvement initiatives.
This role is Inside IR35, the rates advertised are PAYE. Umbrella status can be used by the successful candidate if preferred. This role is 100% site based at SO45 1TX.
