Senior / Principal Highway Engineer
An excellent opportunity to work as Senior / Principal Highway Engineer in London
We are looking for a Senior or Principal Engineer to join our team working on Externally funded Highways Projects, to implement a range of highway developer-funded 'public realm' schemes. The role forms part of the Highways and Transportation services to Westminster City Council (WCC) and entails close working with the contractor FM Conway.
This role will be based in our Southwark Office.
The post holder will report to the 'External Projects' Team Leader and will project manage and undertake the feasibility and detailed design of high profile developer-funded highway schemes in Westminster.
Main duties and responsibilies are:
To manage and implement the design/design checking of highway engineering projects in Westminster, including security schemes
Monthly programme and financial reporting
Liaison with the client team on progress
To prepare reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities, cost estimates and other documents in accordance with local procedures
To undertake designer duties tasks as required under the CDM Regulations
To undertake liaison with other designers, and key stakeholders.
To ensure technical reports and correspondence take into account current policies and best practice, and are delivered on time.
To ensure that day to day correspondence and other communications are dealt with professionally, speedily and effectively.
To ensure colleagues and line managers are kept informed of progress.

A relevant Degree
Working towards achieving Corporate membership of a relevant professional body.
Up to date training in appropriate related subjects.
Ability to work and liaise with a wide range of professionals.
Experience of delivering work on time and to agreed budgets.
Site experience working alongside contractors
Must have the ability to prioritise, to achieve deadlines and to work with minimal supervision
You should be a team player.
Have good spoken and written communication skills.
Ability to liaise with others including public sector officials, members of the public and other Senior colleagues.
Good ability in project and programme management
Good working knowledge of current national, regional and local guidance/standards with regards to the fields of highway engineering. Knowledge of the DMRB
Awareness of up to date initiatives/best practice in highways and transportation
Must be able to demonstrate up to date and relevant knowledge of all aspects of scheme design
Awareness of all of the following disciplines:
Urban realm design principles
Health and Safety, including the CDM Regulations
Desirable to have experience of working on design of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures
Ability to blend tact with firmness
Remain calm and polite in heated situations.
Self-motivated, yet also good team player.
