Introduction

Our key client that specialises in first class, business class and premium economy interiors for commercial aircraft currently have an opportunity for an Industrial Design Engineer at their site in Cwmbran.

Important

Experience within Industrial Design in a highly regulated industry and working on complex products.

The Job

To produce and maintain and evolve product and feature designs to meet the requirements identified by sales and marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To produce industrial design solutions which satisfy market requirements
  • To work with other contributors to ensure that all designs are cost effective
  • To work with other contributors to ensure that manufacturing, installation and maintenance considerations are built in to the designs put forward
  • To attend design reviews and ensure that the agreed design is delivered
  • To manage the ongoing Industrial design of products through their life cycle
  • To work directly with customers as required to capture their requirements and enhance our product offerings
  • To create high quality presentation materials and present products and elements of products to internal customers
  • To create very high quality still visual images of products and elements of products
  • To create very high quality animations of products and features
  • To create very high quality virtual reality and other 3D models
  • To be responsible for developing specific design solutions for new customer bids
  • To develop trim and finish schemes by selecting appropriate materials and colours
  • To manage their own workload to ensure on time delivery of projects
  • Where required, give training to other members of the team on tools, processes and best practice
  • Where required, work to create and deliver group wide tools and techniques and to evaluate and implement new software tools
  • Where required, to maintain product briefs
  • Where required, to identify potential vendors for design or other solutions and to assist in the bidding and selection process
  • Where required, manage the input of third parties to our design processes

Experience, Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated creativity in an industrial environment
  • Working in a customer facing role
  • Proven understanding of manufacturing processes required to realise product concepts
  • Concept design for mechanisms
  • Working in a highly regulated environment
  • The selection and application of aerospace materials
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with little supervision
  • Solid planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to deliver to demanding deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish good working relationships within and across departments
  • Effective team player
  • Skilled at hand sketching
  • Highly skilled user of CS6
  • Highly skilled user of Rhino
  • Skilled user of CATIA VS
  • Skilled user of Virtual Reality packages
  • Skilled user of animation packages
  • Skilled user of PowerPoint and competent user of other MS Office packages
  • Minimum HND in product or industrial design or equivalent industry experience
