The Job

Essential Criteria:

The succesful candidate must be a member of the Insitute of Fire Engineers

The succesful candidate must be capable of reviewing CFD programmes and commenting on their input and conculsions taken from the analysis.

Purpose of the job:

1. To act as the Council's specialist advisor on Building Control fire safety systems providing highly specialised technical advice and policy in relation to building services and fire safety and related matters in the context of the building regulation approval process.

2. To ensure that building regulation applications requiring a services input are processed efficiently, effectively and with consistency. Undertake appropriate projects/schemes on fire safety service matters

3. To assist in managing the delivery of the Council's responsibilities for the determination of building regulation applications by ensuring that fire safety systems for all new and altered buildings including major complex high rise developments are designed, installed and tested in accordance with all relevant codes and standards.

4. To develop fire safety system policy and guidance and advise, review and lead on all Building Control fire safety services matters, liaising with internal and external stakeholders on all aspects associated with services issues including the review and assessment of any relevant consultancy services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. To contribute towards a high quality specialised building control service

2. To provide expert guidance over the full range fire safety systems and review submission of plans, calculations and other supporting information for projects, including major large-scale, high rise and complex developments to ensure that work is undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements and the highest professional practice

Fire safety systems includes, inter alia;

* Fire alarm and detection

* Fire suppression [sprinklers and gaseous]

* Fire fighting installations [dry and wet risers]

* Smoke dispersal, control and removal
