What will I be doing?
As part of the 3D Inspection (Metrology) team, you'll collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure effective and efficient processes for geometric inspections of products manufactured onsite or received from the supply chain. You'll focus on employing automated solutions where appropriate and cost-effective.
- Work with the 3D Inspection (Metrology) team, Quality and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure correct datum systems and tolerances are used, with accurate reporting.
- Ensure that reported data is readily available and stored in the OneSPC system.
- Use the most appropriate software, keeping it updated on all equipment.
- Collaborate with Tooling Metrology Engineers to establish a common approach for inspecting products and supporting tools to ensure consistent problem-solving.
- Implement SPC (Statistical Process Control) for SNA products, introducing CP/Cpk, Control Charts, etc., to monitor process performance and catch defects early.
- Periodically review inspection requirements with Manufacturing Engineers to account for design changes and eliminate unnecessary inspection when process capability is proven.
- Support the business with all automated and digital metrology processes and equipment.
- Act as a reference for Manufacturing Engineers regarding metrology equipment and techniques.
- Promote lean and continuous improvement in Automated Metrology processes, ensuring that the NNVA (Necessary Non-Value Added) processes are efficient and effective.
- Attend trade shows and engage with suppliers to keep our Client informed of emerging metrology equipment and techniques.
- Maintain regular contact with counterparts within SNA and the broader group to ensure alignment and understanding of any differences.
What do you need from me?
Required Skills:
- Ability to assess and evaluate various metrology equipment and processes.
- Core engineering skills and technical knowledge.
- Knowledge of Process Capability techniques (SPC).
- Familiarity with Lean methodologies.
- Proficiency in CMM programming software.
- Strong understanding of inspection techniques such as GD&T, MSA, etc.
Desired Skills (not essential):
- Understanding of automated systems and their implementation.
- Proficient user of Polyworks.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM, ideally CATIA & Delmia.
- Experience with structured language coding (macros) for automation.
Person Specification:
- Alongside demonstrable experience, educated to an appropriate level (i.e. HND, Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, BEng, etc).
- Thorough and detail-oriented mindset.
- Open to change with a transformational approach.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate in English (both spoken and written).
