Job description

Purpose of the Job:

As a Senior Street Lighting and Electrical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, improving maintenance, and managing street lighting and electrical engineering projects. Working within the Council's Streetscene Term Contract, you will lead a dedicated team to deliver efficient and responsive services to specified standards. Your responsibilities will include overseeing major and minor street lighting improvement schemes, festive lighting, and housing external lighting.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and plan highway street lighting systems and estate external lighting, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
2. Manage and progress street lighting and electrical engineering matters within the assigned area or function-based team, with lead responsibility for scheme progression according to agreed programs.
3. Achieve timely and effective street lighting and electrical engineering outcomes in line with the Council's Core Values and Best Value principles.
4. Deputise for the Principal Engineer on a limited basis and ensure statutory and legal obligations are met, communicating in a customer-focused manner.
5. Represent the Council as an expert spokesperson on issues related to the functional area, collaborating with colleagues as needed.
6. Supervise staff, contribute to staff training and development, and maintain professional standards for health, external recognition, and accreditation of the unit.
7. Take responsibility for the design of cost-effective street lighting and street furniture schemes, monitoring their integrated and coordinated delivery across the Streetscene environment.
8. Monitor progress against budget, ensuring conformity to IEE Wiring Regulations, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD), and Street Lighting standards BS5489.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Extensive experience in street lighting and electrical engineering, with a proven track record of successful project management.
• In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to represent the Council as a knowledgeable spokesperson.
