Job description
Our client, a key player in the manufacturing and engineering sector, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Southampton. This permanent role involves working within the R&D team, developing innovative design solutions to meet customer requirements in terms of electrical, mechanical, ergonomic, and aesthetic needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proposing design solutions to meet customer requirements
- Producing detailed 2D drawings to BS8888 or international standards from models and customer-supplied drawings, using SolidWorks
- Assembling and testing prototypes and change models to achieve specifications
- Designing customer tooling to aid product assembly
- Sourcing components and materials specific to the agreed designs
- Maintaining existing 3D models and 2D drawings, including requested changes
- Adhering to all health and safety rules and practices
- Occasionally performing drawing changes or production drawings under the DRC system
Job Requirements:
- Experience in mechanical design engineering within a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in using 3D drafting packages, particularly SolidWorks
- Understanding of producing detailed 2D drawings to international standards
- Education to BTEC level 3/HND in an engineering discipline or significant work experience using CAD
- Experience working to ISO13485 standards is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word
Measurement of Success:
- Contribution to project deliverables and on-time delivery of activities
- Accuracy and completeness of drawings
