Who we are
Prysmian is a global leader in energy and telecoms cable solutions, with three manufacturing sites across the UK and customers all over the world. Innovation and quality are at the core of what we do - and our UK sites play a key role in supporting major energy projects worldwide.
Where you'll work
You'll be based at our Bishopstoke site in the on site Laboratory, a truly unique facility and the only one of its kind in the UK. Here, we test some of the most advanced power transmission cables in the industry - up to one million volts - supporting Prysmian's global manufacturing operations.
This isn't a standard factory or production role. It's a specialist, hands‑on environment where your skills really matter.
The role
We're looking for a practical, hands‑on Mechanical Fitter to join our friendly and experienced laboratory team. This is a 6‑month temporary role with a strong opportunity to become permanent, ideal if you enjoy variety, problem‑solving, and working with heavy‑duty mechanical equipment.
Your work will help keep the test facility running safely and efficiently, directly supporting critical testing for major energy infrastructure projects around the world. No two days are the same.
What you'll be doing
- Building, setting up, and adjusting mechanical rigs used for laboratory testing
- Maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment, tools, and fixtures
- Supporting day‑to‑day laboratory operations with general mechanical fitting work
- Handling and preparing cable sections and components for testing
- Completing training to develop your skills and broaden your technical knowledge
What we're looking for
- A time‑served apprenticeship or relevant mechanical/engineering qualification is desirable but not essential
- Good hands‑on mechanical skills and confidence using tools and machinery
- A safety‑conscious, reliable approach to work
- Ability to work well independently and stay organised
- Flexibility with working hours when required to support testing schedules
Why join Prysmian?
- Temp‑to‑perm opportunity with a stable, global employer
- Work in a one‑of‑a‑kind UK facility using advanced equipment
- Varied, interesting work - not repetitive production tasks
- Ongoing learning and skill development
- Be part of work that supports major energy projects worldwide
