Transport Planner

Overview

An early-career Transport Planner responsible for supporting and delivering small to medium projects. You'll develop technical skills, contribute to reports and modelling, and build client-facing experience.

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • ~2+ years' transport planning experience
  • Working towards professional membership (e.g. CIHT, TPS)
  • Knowledge of UK design guidance and planning policy
  • Experience with AutoCAD, TRICS and modelling tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead smaller projects with support from senior staff
  • Produce Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Technical Notes and Access Appraisals
  • Support Transport Assessments and modelling work
  • Undertake site visits and provide initial design input
  • Prepare drawings (visibility splays, tracking, access design)
  • Attend client, design team and LHA meetings
  • Support public consultations and stakeholder engagement
  • Contribute to fee proposals for smaller schemes

Senior Transport Planner

Reports to: Line Manager / Team Lead

Overview

A more experienced consultant leading projects, managing clients, and supporting junior staff. You'll take ownership of technical delivery and play a visible role in client relationships.

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent experience)
  • ~5+ years' experience
  • Member of a relevant professional body
  • Strong understanding of policy, design standards and modelling
  • Experience managing workload and mentoring junior staff

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and project manage schemes (budget, programme, delivery)
  • Write, review and occasionally approve technical reports
  • Prepare appeal documentation (Statements of Case, Common Ground)
  • Manage client and stakeholder relationships
  • Lead meetings, consultations and LHA discussions
  • Mentor and support junior team members
  • Prepare fee proposals and support bids
  • Identify mitigation strategies for transport impacts

Principal Transport Planner

Overview

A senior technical leader responsible for project oversight, team development, and wining work. You'll combine strong technical credibility with commercial awareness.

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent experience)
  • ~7+ years' experience
  • Chartered or professionally qualified
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and project management experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and approve technical work across projects
  • Act as technical lead on major schemes
  • Prepare appeal evidence and act as expert witness where required
  • Manage clients and maintain high-level relationships
  • Lead project teams and mentor staff
  • Prepare and review tenders and fee proposals
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities
  • Support team strategy, KPIs and performance management
  • Line management responsibilities (including appraisals)

Associate Transport Planner

Overview

A senior leadership role focused on business growth, strategic delivery and team leadership. You will drive client relationships, win work, and contribute to regional/business strategy.

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent experience)
  • ~9+ years' experience
  • Chartered membership (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in business development and team leadership
