Main Purpose of the Role


Based in the Manchester office, you will join a growing and collaborative team of Transport & Infrastructure Engineers and Consultants.


As part of a national, multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with colleagues across multiple offices to deliver high-quality outputs and uphold core business values. This approach provides exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects, clients, and technical challenges.
Current project work includes:

  • Long-term Local Authority framework commissions
  • Active Travel schemes supporting sustainable transport
  • Major infrastructure developments (S278, S38, and S104 schemes)
  • Residential and mixed-use developments with varied design challenges


In this role, you will:

  • Prepare detailed designs, feasibility studies, and scheme reports
  • Take responsibility for project management, budgeting, and cost estimating
  • Produce bills of quantities
  • Plan and manage your own workload to meet deadlines


You will also:

  • Support and mentor junior team members
  • Contribute across all project stages
  • Work collaboratively across disciplines to ensure successful project delivery

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement project requirements to fully meet the client brief in accordance with relevant standards
  • Collate project information and liaise with clients and third parties
  • Supervise site-based projects as required
  • Assist / lead project delivery and delegate tasks to junior staff
  • Review and approve your own work and that of others, including third-party design proposals
  • Collaborate within the team and contribute to a positive team culture

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Essential


Qualifications

  • BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)


Experience

  • 3+ years as a Civil Engineer in civils design and drainage design (residential & commercial)
  • Working knowledge of MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of drainage design standards, construction practices, asset management, and legislation
  • Experience preparing drainage strategies and FRA's, including S104/S106 Agreements
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM responsibilities
  • Ability to lead day-to-day project design, including managing consultant outputs and multidisciplinary inputs
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in client liaison and stakeholder management

Preferred

  • Experience managing project workloads and finances, ensuring compliance with briefs and budgets
  • Utility coordination and clash detection
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and building effective working relationships

Skills

  • Ability to work under pressure with strong organisational skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced design and project/programme environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to design highway engineering solutions and analyse complex data
  • Knowledge of Highways Specifications
  • Experience with Civils 3D
  • Strong drainage design experience and use of analytical modelling tools
  • Clear and confident communication skills, including explaining technical information to non-specialists
