These advanced facilities feature complex mechanical systems-including high-capacity cooling plant, specialized HVAC infrastructure, chilled water loops, and extensive high-pressure pipework. To guarantee that every installation meets the strictest engineering tolerances, our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their on-site team.
Role Overview
Based full-time on-site in Skellefteå, you will take direct responsibility for driving the delivery, technical coordination, and installation of all mechanical systems. Working alongside the Construction Manager, Project Manager, and wider engineering teams, you will ensure that every phase of mechanical construction strictly complies with rigorous project specifications, engineering drawings, and international data centre standards.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Delivery & Surveillance: Coordinate and oversee all mechanical installation works-including piping, HVAC, pumps, chillers, AHUs, and thermal insulation-to ensure absolute compliance with project specifications and industry regulations.
Technical Engineering & Execution: Review and interpret complex mechanical drawings, schematics, technical submittals, and method statements submitted by mechanical subcontractors.
Systems Coordination: Manage the integration of heavy mechanical construction methods, pressure testing protocols, welding standards, HVAC distribution, and mechanical plant commissioning.
Site Progress & Compliance: Carry out rigorous on-site inspections and monitor daily mechanical activities to ensure work is delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Technical Problem Solving: Support the project team in troubleshooting technical or design coordination issues, offering engineering solutions and ensuring proper corrective actions are implemented.
Material & Workmanship Verification: Ensure that all incoming mechanical plant, valves, piping materials, and specialized equipment are inspected, certified, and properly documented prior to installation.
Documentation & Tracking: Maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of mechanical installations, hydrostatic/pneumatic test certificates, and technical documentation to feed into project tracking systems.
Project Handover & Close-Out: Play a pivotal role in mechanical completion and project handover activities, ensuring seamless compilation of turnover packages, commissioning records, and O&M manuals.
What We Are Looking For
Educational Background: Relevant bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related construction discipline.
Industry Experience: Proven track record as a Mechanical Engineer on large-scale, complex construction projects, ideally within mission-critical environments such as hyperscale data centres, advanced manufacturing, or pharmaceutical plants.
Mechanical Technical Mastery: Deep familiarity with heavy mechanical construction methods, pressure testing protocols, welding standards, HVAC distribution, and mechanical plant commissioning.
Systems & Documentation: Strong proficiency in reviewing technical submittals, managing engineering documentation, and coordinating site installation workflows.
Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and direct subcontractors effectively.
