Our client, a leader within the highways sector, is currently seeking a Principal Bridge Engineer for a contract role. This full-time position is initially offered for a minimum of 12 months, with potential variability in location depending on project requirements. The role entails a standard 40-hour work week, although this may vary due to site attendance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical delivery of small to medium work packages, including inspection, assessment, design, and renewal schemes, ensuring adherence to programme and budget.
- Provide technical direction, checking, and approval of designs, calculations, and reports to maintain high standards of quality and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and governance processes to uphold the integrity of engineering projects.
- Contribute to planning, risk management, and commercial awareness to support project success.
- Attend site on an ad-hoc basis, supporting National Highways' programme of post-tensioned concrete bridge inspections during night or day shifts.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers to develop team capability and expertise.
- Act as a key interface with clients and internal disciplines to ensure smooth project delivery.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE).
- Strong background in bridge/structures asset management, design, and assessment.
- Significant experience in managing post-tensioned concrete bridges and site supervision for post-tensioned structural inspections (PTSI).
- Proficiency in relevant design codes, analysis methods, and reporting, including National Highways procedures.
- Demonstrable experience leading the technical delivery of projects.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Driving license required.
Desirable:
- Possession of a National Highways Passport and CSCS card.
