We are recruiting for a Contract Geotechnical Design Engineer (Construction Support) to support HS2 Phase 1 works (packages C2 & C3) as part of the wider design JV supporting the construction team.

  • Role: Geotechnical Engineer - Design / Construction Support (Geotechnical & Earthworks)
  • Project: HS2 Phase 1 (MWCC Sections C2/C3)
  • Location: Calvert (typically 3 days/week in the office)
  • Contract length: 12 months
  • Hours: 40 hours/week
  • Rate: £445/day (Inside IR35)

What you'll be doing

  • Providing construction support on geotechnical/earthworks design for the contractor (answering TQs / RFIs / EWNs)
  • Verifying design using field trials and GI data gathered from site
  • Updating the interpreted ground model to reflect construction observations
  • Coordinating / updating the Geotechnical Risk Register in line with site findings
  • Reviewing and interpreting as-revealed ground conditions, pile/earthworks records, testing and monitoring results
  • Supporting the Observational Method where specified (per CIRIA R185)
  • Reviewing temporary works designs (where they impact permanent works) for integration
  • Supporting production of as-built drawings/records and inputting to quarterly reporting
  • Maintaining strong H&S standards and coordinating with wider design/support teams

What they're looking for

  • BSc/BEng (or equivalent) focused on Geotechnical / Earthworks
  • Ideally 5+ years relevant experience on Design & Build projects (rail/linear projects preferred)
  • Strong communication and coordination skills (written + verbal)
  • Chartered status preferred (not essential)
