Manufacturing Engineer - Metrology & Precision Engineering

This role sits within the Manufacturing Engineering function, providing technical expertise, metrology support, and engineering guidance to ensure the highest levels of product quality, accuracy, and performance are achieved.
The Opportunity
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will play a key role in supporting manufacturing and assembly operations through technical problem-solving, process improvement, dimensional validation, and metrology activities. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, design engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure components and assemblies meet demanding operational and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to manufacturing and assembly teams.
- Act as the engineering interface between production and engineering functions, ensuring clear technical communication.
- Advise on component tolerances, machine capability, and drawing requirements.
- Participate in PFMEA activities, process mapping, risk mitigation, and procedure development.
- Interpret engineering drawings and provide mentoring and support to manufacturing personnel.
- Plan and coordinate metrology activities with internal stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, process capability, and cycle time reduction.
- Assist with production methods and tooling improvements to promote best practice.
- Work collaboratively with manufacturing, quality, design engineering, customers, auditors, and supply chain partners.
- Support manufacturing operations through the use of advanced metrology equipment, including laser tracking systems and measuring arms.
- Analyse measurement data and provide feedback to design teams to support tolerance stack-up requirements.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities and external customer installations through detailed metrology reporting and analysis.
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering principles.
- Knowledge of machining processes including turning, boring, and milling.
- Experience of assembly methodologies and manufacturing systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Experience with CNC programming.
- Familiarity with SAP and manufacturing engineering systems.
- Competence using laser trackers, measuring arms, and precision metrology equipment.
- Experience validating component and assembly accuracy against engineering tolerances.
- Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills.

Qualifications
Minimum
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
Preferred
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
