Our client is a specialist infrastructure business delivering maintenance and surface treatment solutions across the UK's highways network. Renowned for technical expertise and innovation, they work with public and private sector clients to extend asset life, improve safety, and deliver sustainable, value-driven outcomes.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function of the business.

The Role

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for commercial performance, governance, procurement, and risk management across a diverse project portfolio. Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, you will work closely with operational and estimating teams to drive profitability, support business growth, and ensure robust commercial controls are in place.

You will also lead a team comprising:

  • 2 Quantity Surveyors
  • 1 Assistant Quantity Surveyor
  • 1 Bid Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial function across all projects, including contract management, cost control, and risk management.
  • Provide commercial guidance and governance to operational teams.
  • Oversee procurement activities and supply chain strategy.
  • Manage and develop the Bid Manager.
  • Support tendering activities and pipeline growth.
  • Work closely with estimating teams to ensure alignment on pricing and bidding strategies.
  • Drive commercial performance and support strategic business objectives.

About You

  • Experience as a Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within highways, infrastructure or construction.
  • Strong background in contract management, cost control and commercial risk.
  • Experience of procurement and supply chain management.
  • Proven involvement in successful tendering and bidding activities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to operate strategically while remaining hands-on when required.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
