Job Title: General Machinist
Salary: £17 per hour
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Work type: Full-Time, Permanent | Day Shift, 36 Hours per Week
The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established specialist manufacturing business based in Portsmouth, is seeking an experienced CNC Turner/Miller to join their skilled production team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served machinist with experience in both CNC and manual turning/milling who is looking to work in a highly specialised precision engineering environment.
What you'll be doing:
- Set and operate both CNC and manual lathes to manufacture precision-engineered components.
- Work within a busy machine shop environment while maintaining health, safety and quality standards.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and production documentation.
- Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.
- Monitor machining processes and make adjustments where required.
- Maintain accurate production records and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams.
What you'll have:
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner/Miller within a precision engineering environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments.
- Working knowledge of Fanuc controls is essential.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience using XYZ Prototrack controls.
- Experience working with Heidenhain control systems.
- Experience operating manual lathes and other machine shop equipment.
