Systems Engineer (Requirements + V&V)



Initial 6-month contract
3 days p/w in Cheltenham (rest remote) - some travel to Cambridge may be required
£70-£75ph, UMB inside IR35
SC must be in place prior to starting the contract


Our client, a prominent developer of mission and safety critical equipment in the defence and aerospace industries, is seeking a Contract Systems Engineer to join their team in Cheltenham. The position offers the opportunity to support the development of the next generation of military land and aerospace products. Working on a diverse portfolio, you will help deliver solutions that ensure safety and mission success for military and civil applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of solutions for the civil aerospace industries following a systems engineering approach.
  • Requirements-based verification and validation of product requirements, using manual and scripted methods.
  • Engaging with customers to elicit key stakeholder requirements.
  • Translating customer requirements into feasible product requirements.
  • Producing interface control documents, system design documents, and other supporting documentation.
  • Controlling and managing engineering change throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Preparing technical proposals, including estimations and presentations.

Job Requirements:

  • Awareness of Electronic, Software, or Mechanical Engineering development.
  • Experience in developing safety-critical solutions in accordance with DO-178/DO-254 standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Visio.
  • Experience with DOORS and Configuration Management Tools.

  • Comfortable working independently and within a team, with the ability to identify project needs and take initiative where appropriate.
  • Attention to detail in focusing on requirements, specifications, applicability, and language.
  • Understanding the influence of solutions on requirement sets.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, within a multidisciplinary team and with internal company authorities or customers.

Desirable Knowledge/Experience:

  • Coordination and technical leadership of a multidisciplinary project team to develop and deliver complex mechanical, electronic, and embedded software solutions.
