Our client, a leading consultancy in the data centre sector, is currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor (QS) with significant experience in FIDIC Yellow Book contracts to join their team for a major Data Centre project based in Slough. This permanent position offers the opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge projects within sectors such as Pharmaceuticals, Airports, Energy, and Rail. The role entails managing commercial administration and project lifecycle from inception through final account settlement.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Administration
- Administer the FIDIC Yellow Book contract in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Provide contractual advice to the Project Director and wider project team.
- Interpret and apply contract provisions relating to payment, variations, claims, delay, and dispute resolution.
- Ensure all contractual notices are identified, prepared, and submitted within prescribed timescales.
- Maintain comprehensive contract records and correspondence registers.
Commercial Management
- Manage all commercial aspects of the project from commencement through to final account.
- Develop and maintain cost reporting systems, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Produce monthly commercial reports identifying opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Support project governance and commercial decision-making.
Variations and Change Management
- Lead the evaluation, pricing, and negotiation of variations.
- Assess contractor quotations and substantiation of costs.
- Prepare independent cost estimates and commercial assessments.
- Manage the change control process and maintain change registers.
- Ensure all instructed changes are accurately recorded and valued.
Claims and Risk Management
- Assess contractor entitlement under relevant FIDIC provisions.
- Prepare commercial assessments relating to Extension of Time (EOT) and cost claims.
- Support the development of Employer responses to contractor claims.
- Identify emerging commercial risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Assist in dispute avoidance and resolution activities.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
- Significant experience administering major projects under FIDIC Yellow Book.
- Experience in infrastructure, energy, utilities, oil & gas, renewables, process engineering, or industrial sectors.
- Proven track record managing projects valued in excess of £50m.
- Strong experience in variation management, claims assessment, and contract administration.
- Proficiency in preparing and reviewing cost reports, forecasts, and commercial risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of change control and project controls processes.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- MRICS or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
