Our client, a London local authority, is seeking a Streetworks Inspector to join its Network Management Team on a contract basis. The role will support the delivery of statutory network management duties under the Traffic Management Act 2004, helping to coordinate highway works, maintain legislative compliance and reduce congestion across the borough and adjoining road networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and coordinate street works in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act, Traffic Management Act and London Permit Scheme
  • Support the Network Manager, Street Works Manager and Network Permit Officers in delivering network management objectives
  • Monitor highway activities, permits and works notifications to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, processes and procedures
  • Use and help maintain EToN, National Street Gazetteer and Mayrise systems
  • Provide specialist technical advice on network operations, street works and permit management
  • Identify risks, support traffic congestion reduction and recommend appropriate remedial action
  • Assist with health and safety checks, risk assessments and compliance with CDM regulations
  • Build effective working relationships with utilities, contractors, internal teams, external bodies and members of the public

Job Requirements:

  • Valid NRSWA accreditation at supervisor level, including Units 1-16
  • Detailed knowledge of New Roads and Street Works Act legislation
  • Strong understanding of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and London Permit Scheme
  • Practical experience in street works, network operations, highways or a related technical service area
  • Detailed knowledge of EToN systems and highway permit processes
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation, CDM regulations and risk assessment procedures
  • Experience working within a local authority, highways or utility environment
  • HNC in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification

Additional Information:


The post holder will report to the Network Manager and will not have line management or budget responsibility. The role may occasionally require work outside normal office hours, according to service requirements, and involves supporting continuous improvement across the highway network.
