Role details:
We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our clients team in Basildon on a six-month contract. The role will support the development and delivery of advanced defence electronics, mission-critical systems and manufacturing capabilities across the product lifecycle.
Working within a cross-functional environment, you will help transition new products from design into production, improve manufacturing processes and equipment, and provide technical guidance to internal teams, customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, validate and improve manufacturing processes, methods, equipment and production workflows
- Support the transition of new products from design into production and contribute to manufacturing plans
- Prepare and support Manufacturing Maturity Reviews and maintain governance through lifecycle management processes
- Resolve complex product and production issues, remove manufacturing bottlenecks and respond effectively to shop-floor escalations
- Analyse production schedules, labour, material costs, capacity, workflows, space requirements and equipment layouts
- Prepare and review manufacturing documentation, including risk assessments, technical reports, specifications, routings, control plans and electronic work instructions
- Support quality assurance, process capability validation, failure investigations and structured problem-solving activities such as 8D
- Lead continuous improvement activities, share best practice and mentor junior members of the manufacturing engineering team
Job Requirements:
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent manufacturing engineering experience
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering principles and production operations
- Experience across multiple phases of the product lifecycle and associated engineering processes
- Ability to plan and manage work packages, schedule workloads and support project delivery
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to support decisions using data
- Experience of reviewing technical work, managing change and developing manufacturing capability
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work with customers, suppliers and cross-functional teams
- Eligibility for full security clearance
Desirable Skills:
- Experience of developing manufacturing capability and applying Industry 4.0 or smart factory principles
- Knowledge of people management, leadership, performance management and change management
