Our client is seeking a Senior Fuel Cell Systems Engineer to support the development of advanced hydrogen-electric propulsion systems within the aerospace sector. This contract role will provide systems engineering expertise across LTPEM fuel cell integration, supplier management, testing, requirements and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier management and development activities for LTPEM fuel cell systems, ensuring timely delivery, quality and compliance with programme requirements
  • Act as the technical expert for LTPEM fuel cells, providing subject matter expertise and supporting design reviews for system interfaces and balance-of-plant fluid systems
  • Support test teams in diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving fuel cell system performance issues during development and validation testing
  • Own and maintain fuel cell system documentation, including technical requirements, interface definitions, compliance evidence and supporting design records
  • Apply systems engineering principles to the development of fuel cell and electric propulsion systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers and programme stakeholders to support successful project delivery

Job Requirements:

  • Strong systems engineering experience within aerospace, transport, energy or another safety-critical engineering environment
  • Understanding of PEM fuel cell electrochemistry, including operating principles, performance drivers and limitations
  • Experience integrating PEM fuel cell stacks into complex systems, ideally for transport or aerospace applications
  • Experience resolving fuel cell integration challenges across interfaces and balance-of-plant systems
  • Experience analysing PEM fuel cell test data to assess stack health, performance, degradation trends and failure indicators
  • Experience developing and managing requirements for aerospace or similar systems, hardware or safety-critical products
  • Experience applying operational and functional analysis to fuel cell systems, electric propulsion systems or related products
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within an interdisciplinary engineering team

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience using engineering tools such as LabVIEW, Polarion and DIAdem
  • Knowledge of ARP4754B requirements processes, including requirements capture, validation, decomposition and traceability
  • Experience with Teamcenter PLM or similar product lifecycle management systems
  • Strong technical documentation, problem-solving and communication skills
