Our client is seeking an Engineering Drawing Checker for a contract opportunity within the automotive engineering sector. The role will provide independent verification of engine component drawings and associated technical product documentation, ensuring that design intent, manufacturing requirements, GD&T principles and applicable engineering standards are clearly and accurately communicated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently check engineering drawings for engine components before formal approval and release.
  • Verify that fit, form and function requirements are appropriately documented.
  • Identify drawing errors, inconsistencies and omissions, recommending corrective actions where required.
  • Review assembly drawings, bill of materials structures and component relationships.
  • Assess manufacturability, assembly requirements and technical risks during drawing reviews.
  • Apply engineering drawing standards, GD&T requirements and manufacturing principles.
  • Maintain drawing review checklists and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide guidance to Design Engineers on drawing standards and GD&T best practice.
  • Support project-specific drawing requirements, engineering change management and controlled document release.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline, or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Experience as a Senior Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Engineering Drawing Checker.
  • Expert knowledge and practical application of GD&T, including BS 8888 and/or ISO technical product documentation and GPS standards.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings and carrying out tolerance stack analyses.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, casting, fabrication and assembly.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods and metrology principles.
  • Understanding of electrical design requirements and interfaces within automotive engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of engine design and engine technologies would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Windchill PLM and Creo would be beneficial.
  • Self-motivated, well organised and able to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
