Our client, a prominent player in the Defence & Security and Aerospace sectors, is currently seeking a Systems Safety Engineer for a 6-month contract position based in Brighton. You will be required to work onsite 4 days per week for this role.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Experience working within complex engineering systems (aerospace, defence, or high-integrity industries).
- Understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management.
- Some experience or exposure to system safety engineering.
- Experience managing technical documentation and requirements.
- Ability to work within multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Desirable
- Experience with safety standards such as ARP4754, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, and Def Stan 00-056.
- Experience with requirements management.
- Experience contributing to hazard analyses (FMEA, FTA, FHA).
- Understanding of reliability analyses.
- Knowledge of Reliasoft software tools.
- Aerospace or defence programme experience.
Safety Engineering:
- Support the development of system safety artefacts in accordance with aerospace and defence standards.
- Assist in performing hazard identification and analysis activities.
- Contribute to safety assessments such as Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Support the development and maintenance of Hazard Logs.
- Ensure safety requirements are captured, allocated, and verified within the system design.
- Managing the Quarterly Airworthiness Review Board.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with design, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.
- Support engagement with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist in resolving technical issues and integration challenges.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with experience in the aerospace/defence industry in the System Safety domain.
- In lieu of a degree, significant experience working within the aerospace/defence industry in the System Safety domain.

- Detail-oriented with a focus on safety and system integrity.
- Proactive and able to take ownership of tasks within a structured engineering process.
