Our client is seeking a Hardware Team Leader to join its defence and aerospace engineering team in Kent on a permanent basis. The role involves providing technical and managerial leadership to an electronics design team supporting safety-critical products, including helmet-mounted and head-up displays, mission computers, flight controls and active inceptors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing managerial and technical leadership to a team of hardware and electronics engineers
  • Managing work packages, costs, schedules, risks and opportunities throughout the product lifecycle
  • Working closely with production teams to ensure engineering activities support programme demand
  • Providing technical governance and ensuring compliance with company processes and relevant standards
  • Leading cost and performance trade-offs while driving continuous improvement
  • Reporting task status, technical maturity and delivery risks to project management
  • Reviewing resource requirements with functional management and supporting effective team planning
  • Coaching team members and helping to develop technical capability and working practices

Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience leading and managing engineering teams through a full product development lifecycle
  • Strong knowledge of electronics design and hardware engineering within a safety-critical environment
  • Experience managing costs, schedules, dependencies, risks and work packages
  • Understanding of risk and compliance requirements within the defence, security or aerospace sectors
  • Experience identifying improvements to engineering processes, reducing failures and improving reliability
  • Familiarity with systems full lifecycle activities, technical governance and product design control
  • Experience using work package or project management tools, including Jira; knowledge of DOORS or MSP would be advantageous
  • Strong communication, coaching, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
