Our client, a leading organisation in the renewables sector, is seeking a Power Controls Specialist for a contract position within a 24/7 Power Control Room. The role is responsible for the safe, compliant and reliable operation of generation and transmission assets, supporting operational continuity across connected business areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate generation and transmission assets in line with QHSE standards, approved procedures, TASA/OMA requirements and defined escalation routes
- Monitor and operate SCADA, HPPP, PPC and SCS platforms for active power, frequency, voltage, reactive power and WTG control
- Identify relevant operational events and support the accurate and timely publication of REMIT Urgent Market Messages
- Manage SCS alarms, including notification creation, escalation and appropriate follow-up
- Support the initial handling of loss of generation, loss of control and business continuity events
- Carry out park and WTG control activities for maintenance and ancillary services
- Undertake Control Point and restricted HV Control Engineer duties up to 66kV, within authorised boundaries
- Liaise with TSOs, DNOs, OFTOs, O&M providers and internal stakeholders during operational and incident conditions
- Identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements through the appropriate Power Control channels
- Maintain technical knowledge, progress through approved authorisation requirements and support colleagues with established operational processes
Job Requirements:
- Practical experience operating SCADA applications in a real-time operational environment
- Experience in electrical power generation, transmission, utilities, control room or operational engineering environments
- Knowledge of controls systems, including HPPP, PPC and SCS platforms
- Understanding of active power, frequency, voltage, reactive power and WTG control
- Ability to work accurately within procedures, policies and authorisation boundaries
- Strong situational awareness, task prioritisation and decision-making skills during routine and incident conditions
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English
- Electrical qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC, HNC or a relevant degree
Desirable Experience:
- Experience working in a power generation or transmission control room
- Previous HV Control Engineer experience
- Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person experience
- Knowledge of REMIT and Grid Code regulations
- Understanding of Control Point services, alarm handling and Electrical Safety Rules
Working Pattern:
This role operates on a 24/7 rostered shift pattern of either three days and four nights or four days and three nights, working from 6.00am to 6.00pm.
