Our client is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join its highways and structures team on a permanent basis, supporting the safe and efficient management of highway bridge assets across the Midlands. This role can be based from either the Birmingham or Nottingham office and will provide technical leadership across structural assessments, CS 451 reviews and the management of substandard structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate structural assessments, CS 451 reviews and associated resources to support the safe and serviceable condition of highway structures
- Undertake high-priority and urgent structural assessments within demanding timescales, identifying structural risks and requirements for interim measures
- Complete high-priority CS 451 reviews to determine the need and priority for further assessments and temporary measures
- Produce CS 470 interim measures documentation, obtain the necessary approval and manage implementation
- Identify and prepare briefs for survey works supporting structural assessments and review activities
- Coordinate the delivery of technical documents produced by consultants, reviewing content and providing clear technical comments
- Support the identification, assessment and management of risks associated with highway bridge and structures assets
- Work with technical advisers, consultants and wider project teams to ensure effective delivery of structural engineering activities
Job Requirements:
- Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer or Structural Engineer status, or an equivalent level of professional experience
- Experience in highway structures management, bridge assessments and structural reviews
- Strong knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges standards, methods of working and the Specification for Highway Works
- Understanding of Eurocodes and their application to highway structures
- Relevant degree or HND in civil engineering, structural engineering or a related discipline
- Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and associated duties
- Strong technical report writing, communication and document review skills
- A full driving licence with no more than three points, as driving is required as part of the role
