Our client is seeking an FPGA Engineer to support advanced Defence and Security programmes on a contract basis. The role involves designing, developing and verifying FPGA firmware for complex electronic systems, working across multidisciplinary engineering teams and highly regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and developing FPGA solutions using Xilinx, TCL, Verilog, SystemVerilog and UVM
- Working with FPGA architectures including Xilinx 7 Series, Xilinx UltraScale, Intel (Altera) and Microsemi (Actel)
- Developing and integrating high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet and JESD
- Using MATLAB and Simulink for model-driven engineering and auto-generated code
- Deriving detailed firmware requirements and architectures from wider system requirements
- Applying structured firmware design processes aligned with RTCA DO-254 or similar standards
- Supporting the development of cryptography and anti-tamper techniques
- Contributing to artificial intelligence applications, including machine learning and genetic algorithms
- Using appropriate electronics test methods and equipment to verify system performance
- Collaborating effectively within mixed-discipline engineering teams
Job Requirements:
- Experience in FPGA engineering, firmware development
- Strong knowledge of Verilog, SystemVerilog, TCL and UVM
- Understanding of Xilinx, Intel (Altera) or Microsemi FPGA architectures
- Experience with high-speed interfaces, including PCIe, Ethernet and JESD
- Knowledge of structured firmware development and standards such as RTCA DO-254
- Understanding of cryptography, anti-tamper methods and secure electronics design
- Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, model-driven engineering or auto-generated code
- Strong electronics testing, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary Defence and Security environments
