Our Water and Utilities client is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team delivering water mains renewal and infrastructure projects across the Thames Water network on a permanent basis out of Maple Cross offices (Rickmansworth)
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of a portfolio of capital works projects, ensuring effective cost control, accurate forecasting, contract administration, and risk management. Working closely with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders, you will play a key role in driving value and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial and cost control aspects of water mains renewal projects across the Thames Water framework.
- Assist with project budgeting, cost reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Provide commercial and contractual support to operational and project delivery teams.
- Administer NEC contracts and support the management of contractual obligations and risks.
- Prepare valuations, applications for payment, compensation events, and variations.
- Monitor project performance and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
- Support procurement activities and subcontractor management.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
- Produce accurate monthly commercial reports and project forecasts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practice across project delivery teams.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction, civil engineering, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
- Experience managing project costs, reporting, and forecasting.
- Good understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management principles.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to risk management.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience working on water, utilities, pipeline, or civil engineering projects.
- Previous exposure to Thames Water or other regulated utility frameworks.
- Working towards or holding membership with RICS, ICES, or another relevant professional body.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional accreditation or working towards chartered status is advantageous.
