SQL Database Administrator / Developer

SQL Server Administration & Development | Inside IR35 | ASAP Start | Contract until January 2027

We're partnering with a prestigious London-based law firm to secure an experienced SQL Database Administrator / Developer to support and enhance the firm's critical database infrastructure and applications.

This role will suit a well-rounded SQL professional with strong experience across both SQL Server administration and database development, capable of ensuring the reliability, security and performance of enterprise database environments while supporting ongoing development and optimisation initiatives.

While primarily remote, candidates should be willing and able to travel to London on occasion for stakeholder meetings, workshops and project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, support and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Design, develop and optimise SQL databases, stored procedures, functions, views and scripts.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning and optimisation improvements.
  • Manage database backups, restores, disaster recovery and high-availability solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and performance issues.
  • Support database deployments, upgrades and patching activities.
  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to deliver robust data solutions.
  • Ensure database security, integrity and compliance with organisational standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, standards and best practices.
  • Support business-critical applications and systems that rely on SQL Server databases.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience in SQL Server Database Administration (DBA).
  • Strong SQL Development skills, including T-SQL, stored procedures, views, functions and performance tuning.
  • Experience administering enterprise-scale SQL Server environments.
  • Knowledge of backup, recovery, replication and high-availability solutions.
  • Experience with database monitoring, troubleshooting and optimisation.
  • Strong understanding of database security and permissions management.
  • Ability to analyse and resolve complex database issues.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience within legal, professional services or other highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of Azure SQL, Azure Data Services or cloud-hosted database platforms.
  • Experience with ETL processes and data integration.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SSIS, SSRS or SSAS.
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications and enterprise systems.
