Our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and deliver mechanical building services design projects within the construction sector, with a particular focus on data centres, industrial and commercial developments. This permanent role involves managing medium to large-scale projects from concept through to delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and maintaining strong relationships with clients and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical engineering design and project delivery across a range of building services projects.
- Produce detailed mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, drawings and technical documentation.
- Manage project programmes, quality requirements, workload priorities and commercial objectives.
- Design and specify mechanical systems, controls, instrumentation and operating solutions where appropriate.
- Coordinate mechanical services with architects, structural engineers and other project disciplines.
- Carry out site inspections, condition surveys, testing and dilapidation assessments of existing installations.
- Provide technical advice at design reviews, workshops and project meetings, acting as a key client contact.
- Support sustainable design solutions, undertake quality checks and mentor graduate and junior engineers.
Job Requirements:
- HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification supported by relevant industry experience.
- Experience in mechanical building services design across multiple RIBA stages.
- Strong knowledge of CIBSE guidance, British Standards, Building Regulations and relevant industry codes.
- Understanding of UK health and safety legislation and construction industry best practice.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, mechanical design and calculation software, Revit and IES.
- Experience using engineering calculation tools, spreadsheet-based analysis and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and project programmes.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams; experience in a consultancy or construction environment and progress towards Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.
