Our client is seeking a Client General Site Manager to oversee the construction of an onshore electrical substation and associated onshore works within the renewables sector. This contract role will act as the on-site Client Representative for the Norfolk Vanguard project, supporting the HVDC Package Manager and coordinating client site activities throughout construction, commissioning, handover and commercial closeout.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the on-site Client Representative for the construction and delivery of the onshore substation and associated works
- Manage the Client's site duties under the Contract and coordinate additional site resources and supporting project functions
- Oversee site activities relating to health, safety, environment, security and pre-handover maintenance
- Support the resolution of site issues, employer risks, programme risks and package interface matters
- Manage relationships with National Grid, contractors, Client Senior Management and other key stakeholders
- Coordinate interface planning with National Grid, the Onshore Cables Team and the Commissioning Manager responsible for HV Safety Rules
- Monitor the Contractor's fulfilment of its Principal Contractor duties under CDM and ensure compliance with project requirements
- Prepare progress reports, risk updates, dashboards and key-decision presentations for project leadership, while supporting operational handover and as-built documentation
Job Requirements:
- Extensive experience as a Site Manager on large-scale HV substation construction projects
- Proven experience managing the integration of HV equipment throughout civil, construction and installation phases
- Strong background in civil engineering and HV substation site construction management
- Technical knowledge of HV mechanical and electrical installation, testing and commissioning of HV systems and cables
- Understanding of civil engineering techniques, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and their practical implementation
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or equivalent qualification; NEBOSH or another advanced safety qualification would be advantageous
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- Business-proficient English and the ability to work effectively in a fully site-based position
Project Environment:
The role requires a thorough understanding of contracts, consent management plans, leases, design information, the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan, Employer's Requirements, technical specifications, package interfaces and contractor documentation. Strong communication, stakeholder management, reporting and commercial awareness will be essential to supporting the safe delivery of the onshore electrical transmission system.
