Environmental Manager


Our client is a leading provider of engineering, construction and commissioning services across the energy and infrastructure sectors. Supporting major transmission, distribution and energy transition projects, the organisation is seeking a permanent Environmental Manager to provide environmental and sustainability leadership across significant construction activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership on environmental and sustainability best practice in conjunction with the SHESQ function.
  • Ensure suitable management controls are in place so that personnel understand their statutory environmental duties and responsibilities.
  • Work closely with site management teams to ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability plans, procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Lead and oversee environmental incident investigations, analyse findings and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Review environmental and sustainability data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement environmental campaigns, improvement plans, procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and manage required environmental consents, licences, permits and exemptions, including input into project and site set-up.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, pre-qualification submissions, tenders and environmental and sustainability award entries.

Job Requirements:

  • Chartered membership of IEMA or an equivalent professional environmental qualification.
  • Understanding of practical environmental risk mitigation on significant construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of waste management, water management, pollution prevention, statutory nuisance, contaminated land and ecological mitigation.
  • Experience with environmental consents, licensing, Development Consent Orders and Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Strong understanding of Net Zero principles and sustainability strategies.
  • Experience in carbon measurement, reporting and developing actions to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
  • Experience in environmental incident management, investigation and corrective action planning.
  • Excellent communication, report-writing, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
