A growing engineering and manufacturing business are looking for a proactive Buyer who enjoys working closely with suppliers, engineering teams, and manufacturing operations.
- Role: Buyer
- Duration: 6-12 month contract
- Pay: £25 - 30 p/hr (Inside IR35)
- Location: Eastleigh
- Working Pattern: Fully onsite
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process for engineering materials and components.
- Ensure materials are delivered in line with project, manufacturing, and customer requirements.
- Proactively manage supplier performance, delivery schedules, and lead times.
- Expedite critical orders and resolve supply chain bottlenecks.
- Support supplier development activities and performance improvement plans.
- Investigate and resolve supplier non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Monitor procurement KPIs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through supplier negotiation and sourcing activities.
- Work closely with Engineering, Planning, Quality, and Production teams to support operational delivery.
- Maintain accurate procurement and supplier data within ERP systems.
The successful candidate will have experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment and ideally an understanding of machined components, fabrications, castings, mechanical assemblies, or other engineered products.
Key Requirements:
- Previous purchasing or procurement experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong supplier management and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing purchase orders, supplier performance, delivery schedules, and expediting activities.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Production, and Quality.
- SAP experience.
- Experience sourcing machined components, fabrications, castings, mechanical assemblies, or engineered products.
- Exposure to supplier quality, NCRs, and corrective action processes.
- Understanding of technical drawings, BOMs, and engineering specifications.
- Experience delivering supplier cost reductions and performance improvements
You'll play a key role in identifying cost-saving opportunities, supporting supplier development activities, and helping to continuously improve supply chain performance.
