Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead a flagship 132kV/33kV EHV/HV substation project within the power transmission and distribution sector. Based near Harrogate in Yorkshire, this contract opportunity involves managing a complex Design and Build scheme from delivery through to completion, with regular travel to the construction site required several times per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of the 132kV/33kV substation project, including cost, programme, scope, quality and safety
- Deliver the project safely, effectively and in line with agreed timescales, budgets and client requirements
- Lead and co-ordinate designers, consultants, surveyors, construction teams, subcontractors and suppliers
- Manage project risks and opportunities across commercial, engineering, programme and delivery activities
- Maintain effective client relationships and act as a confident point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
- Oversee project management documentation, deliverables, reporting and governance requirements
- Manage and support junior project management professionals involved in project delivery
- Report project progress and performance to the Head of Operations
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience managing HV and EHV engineering schemes, with a proven track record in the Design and Build of 132kV substations
- Experience delivering projects in line with adoptable DNO standards; experience of complex 66kV or 33kV schemes will also be considered
- Strong understanding of programme, budget, scope change, quality and commercial management
- Detailed knowledge and practical experience of NEC contracts is highly desirable
- Fluent understanding of CDM regulations and health and safety requirements
- Experience delivering ICP substation projects, particularly within the Northern Powergrid region, is highly advantageous
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, substations and renewable energy technologies
- Excellent leadership, communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and proactively
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in electrical engineering, project management or a related discipline; an advanced qualification is advantageous
- Relevant project management certification, such as PMP, is preferred
- Demonstrable success managing complex power projects from initiation through to completion
- Proficiency in project management software and associated delivery tools
- Ability to provide strong and relevant industry references
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to the construction site near Harrogate
