The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Solutions Engineer to take ownership of our secure, air-gapped IT infrastructure environment across our sites.
This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in building a brand-new platform from the ground up. You'll influence the design, implementation and long-term support of the environment while ensuring users have access to secure, reliable and high-performing IT services.
Working closely with the IT Service Delivery Manager and wider technology teams, you'll help shape local IT strategy, drive infrastructure improvements and champion security, compliance and operational excellence.
What You'll Be Doing
- Owning and optimising a secure on-premise VDI environment, ensuring performance, availability and user experience remain first-class.
- Leading the migration and enhancement of virtual desktop platforms using next-generation technologies.
- Supporting and developing core infrastructure including servers, storage, networking and virtualisation platforms.
- Delivering strategic projects that improve IT capability, efficiency and user experience.
- Collaborating with architecture teams, service delivery teams and third-party vendors to introduce innovative solutions.
- Maintaining a strong security posture and ensuring compliance with standards such as ISO 27001, NIST and Cyber Essentials Plus.
- Managing incidents, changes and problem-resolution activities to minimise disruption and continually improve services.
- Overseeing backup, disaster recovery and business continuity processes, including annual testing exercises.
- Providing technical expertise and recommendations on emerging technologies, infrastructure roadmaps and future improvements.
- Supporting budget planning, project proposals and ongoing technology investment decisions.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Technical Architect or similar role.
- Strong experience supporting enterprise-scale IT infrastructure environments.
- Expertise in VDI technologies such as Omnissa Horizon, VMware Horizon or equivalent platforms.
- Knowledge of virtualisation, networking, storage and security technologies.
- Experience managing Windows Server environments and Microsoft technologies including Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune, SCCM and Autopilot.
- Strong PowerShell or automation scripting skills.
- Experience working within structured IT Service Management environments and ITIL processes.
- A proactive, outcome-focused approach with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a global business.
Desirable Experience
- Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI).
- Dell Thin Client and Wyse Management Server administration.
- Windows 11 and Ubuntu image creation and management.
- Multi-site or geographically dispersed infrastructure environments.
- Experience within regulated, security-conscious or mission-critical sectors.
Security Requirements
Due to the sensitive nature of the work, applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of UK Security Clearance.
