Role: Technical Sales Manager - Standby Power Systems
Location: Finchampstead (office-based role)
Working pattern: Hybrid - 4 days office / 1 day home
Reporting to: Managing Director
Overview
We are recruiting a Technical Sales Manager to support a UK sales team selling standby power and power conversion solutions into industrial and critical infrastructure environments. This is a customer-facing, technically-led role, combining pre-sales engineering support, tendering/quoting, and order/project coordination to help win and deliver profitable business.
You will be the go-to technical point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders, supporting field-based Sales and Business Development Managers with proposals, technical guidance, and smooth internal coordination.
Location / travel
- Hybrid working: 4 days in the office, 1 day from home
- Occasional travel in the UK and internationally, including Germany
- You will sometimes travel alongside Sales Managers for customer meetings/activity
- As part of the recruitment process, the successful candidate will need to visit Germany to understand the wider operation
What you will be doing
- Deliver UK hardware order intake targets while protecting agreed gross margin
- Act as the technical expert for all pre-sales queries (product selection, sizing, applications)
- Build and maintain long-term customer relationships through responsive, high-quality support
- Prepare quotes and tenders, including technical calculations and cost sheets (working with UK operations and international colleagues where required)
- Interpret and respond to technical and commercial tender documentation
- Support field-based Sales and Business Development Managers with internal coordination and customer communications
- Maintain an accurate pipeline within the CRM (suspects, prospects, customers)
- Support marketing with technical input for campaigns and sales collateral
- Project manage won orders where required - raising internal purchase orders, expediting deliveries, and managing customer expectations
- Attend monthly sales meetings and contribute to continuous improvement
- Promote strong customer-first behaviours, and a no-compromise approach to H&S and environmental standards

What we are looking for (skills and experience)
- Qualified Electrician or Electrical Technician/Engineer (or equivalent hands-on electrical background)
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to support negotiation through well-built proposals
- Confident producing technical quotations/tenders and written responses
- Numerate, organised, and comfortable managing multiple bids/orders concurrently
- Clear written and verbal communicator with a professional customer approach
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (ERP/CRM experience beneficial)
- Full UK driving licence
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Flexible, team-oriented, and keen to learn and develop
Package
- Base salary: £60,000 to £70,000 (flexible/negotiable)
- Commission: 10% OTE commission
- Car allowance: £700 per month
- Life assurance: 4x salary
- Pension: 5%
- Holiday: 24 days + bank holidays
